WJJ Hoge and I met with the mediators at the Westminster Senior Center today. As a result, we agreed to the following, as posted online by WJJ Hoge. (Think of this as a joint communique)
This afternoon, I participated in a mediation session with Bill Schmalfeldt relating to the criminal charges now pending against him. We reached the following agreement:
1. Schmalfeldt agrees to abide by the peace order extension to include refraining from contact via @mentions on Twitter.
2. Schmalfeldt agrees to drop his appeal of the extension of the peace order.
3. I have agreed to recommend that the pending criminal charges be dropped, and I have done so.
4. I have agreed that any criminal charges may be expunged.
I do not wish to make any further comments on this matter.
Likewise, I feel this is an incident best put behind us. However, I will make an additional comment. The usual contingent of trolls, entertained as they are by the conflict of others, are spreading a vicious rumor that I hope Mr. Hoge will help me in putting down. There is no gag order. And I did not agree to “give up” Brett Kimberlin. This needs to be stressed. The agreement was between myself and Mr. Hoge, and involves no one else. Mr. Hoge will continue to vigorously defend himself against Mr. Kimberlin’s lawsuit. I will continue to report on it.
But I no longer have the threat of jail hanging over my head. Mr. Hoge gets to keep his peace order. And as far as he and I are concerned, there is peace.
Let the speculation end.
I did not agree to do this in the mediation, but as a show of good faith, I will remove my recent hypercritical posts concerning Mr. Hoge. I will leave the newsworthy ones. But the ones that deal with our now settled difficulties can be trashed with no harm to the ongoing narrative.
