I have nothing but tolerance for people with opposing viewpoints. A well-reasoned article in rebuttal of someone else’s op-ed piece is always welcome. But when a never was, never-will-be like WJJ Hoge of Westminster, Md., resorts to base mocking and ridicule without offering a single, sapient counterpoint, one has to wonder, “Who died and made YOU a pundit?”
Mr. Hoge was not impressed with an op-ed piece written by the pseudonymous Xenophon at the Breitbart Unmasked website. (Yes, I WILL link to it.) It is a thoughtful, well-sourced piece, citing sources like Mother Jones, Crooks & Liars, The Atlantic and even a direct quote from the person being criticized in the commentary.
See if you can find a rebuttal to anything Xenophon wrote in the following.
This is the entire rebuttal. Hoge calls it an “hallucination” on Xenophon’s part, and refers to him as a “failing minor Democrat(sp) party operative.”
Not a word of rebuttal. Not a single point in opposition to what Xenophon wrote. Just mockery. Blatant, stupid mockery.
As the months have gone by and Mr. Hoge finds himself under more and more pressure from the Kimberlin lawsuits and his failure to put me behind bars, his utter failure to even get a single criminal charge against me out of the office of the Carroll County State’s Attorney, Mr. Hoge’s writing is becoming more and more unhinged. Since I have sent a cease and desist to his lawyer demanding that the baseless attacks on me in his blog stop at once, and he seems to be honoring that, he has turned his anger against Xenophon. Since he doesn’t know who Xenophon is or where he/she lives, it’s hard to file charges — but I can’t help but feel that if Xenophon were a Maryland resident, Mr. Hoge would be marching to the courthouse on a daily basis to file criminal charges against Xenophon.
I don’t speak for Xenophon. I speak for myself. All I have ever asked is that if you have a criticism of something I’ve written, let your readers know WHY you disagree with it, provide opposing points of view, cite sources that disagree with the sources I’ve cited, present a rational adult argument, and you will have my respect. I will disagree, but I will respect you for your opinion.
This? This is a 66-year old man mocking another writer like a third grader. It is beneath the dignity of an adult and the fact that this sort of mockery would find favor with anyone calling him or herself a thinking adult is an insult to anyone who believes in the concept of civil discourse.
